FAMILY HOLIDAY TO OMAN
Muscat - Wahiba Sands - Ras El Jinz

This family journey of discovery begins in the capital city of Muscat which reflects the countries rich history and culture.

Your first stop on your Muscat City tour is a visit to the Grand Mosque, the largest  in Oman, with its decorative interior and the largest one piece Iranian carpet to be found anywhere in the world.

Afterwards you will visit the charming Bait al Zubair, a private museum housing traditional Omani items reflecting the country's rich heritage.  

Oman's more recent history can be explored within the walls of the spectacular forts at Nizwa and Nakhal, these strongholds rise from the desert, towering above the surrounding palm trees and countryside. 

Your trip also includes an excursion to Sur where your family can witness one of the greatest sights in the natural world, the breeding ground of the green turtles. These magnificent creatures come ashore to nest all year round, and have been doing so for centuries, before making their way back to the depths of the worlds oceans.
Day1 - DEPARTURE FROM LONDON HEATHROW
Depart from London Heathrow airport for your overnight flight to Muscat on board Oman Air
 
Day2 - ARRIVAL- HD MUSCAT CITY TOUR
Upon arrival at Muscat International Airport, you will be met and greeted by your local English speaking Driver/representative and transferred to your hotel check in (guaranteed early check in)

Start the tour and first stop is at the Grand Mosque, the only mosque in Oman where visitors are allowed inside. It has the biggest 1 piece hand made Iranian carpet in the world. The interior walls are made of carara marbles.

Notes: Grand Mosque is open from Saturday to Wednesday from 0800 hrs to 1100 hrs only. Ladies visiting the mosque are required to wear scarves, cover their hair and wear full sleeves. All clients should not wear shorts, beach wear or sleeveless outfits or transparent clothes.

Visit Bait Al Zubair Museum for a glimpse of Oman's glorious past

Exhibits include information regarding the Al Busaidi dynasty, with portraits of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said and various other rulers. There are also four galleries on the ground floor that exhibit excellent examples of khanjar (Omani dagger), male and female attire, traditional swords and firearms, antique jewellery and household articles.

Drive to the Old Muscat (where guests can see the Al Alam Palace, the official palace of His Majesty and also the 2 Portuguese forts, Jalali & Mirani). Proceed to the Muttrah Souk, one of the most fascinating souks in the Gulf.

Day3 - 4WD MUSCAT - NAKHAL - MUSCAT
0800 hrs   Breakfast at the hotel
0900 hrs   Bilad Sait, Wadi Bani Auf, which is renowned as one of the most fantastic tourist locations. Wadi Bani Auf leads to the famous Snake Gorge. The name 'Snake Gorge' refers to the serpentine effect created by the mountains snaking throughout the wadi.

Drive to see the magnificent Nakhal fort, situated on a rocky outcrop surrounded by date palms. Photo stop at Rustaq fort.

Continue to the hot springs of Al Thowarah on the far side of the village. The stream runs full of clear spring water, the source of which is the clefts in the mountainside. The water is warm and soothing.

Picnic Lunch included.

Proceed to Muttrah Souk in the heart of Muscat is a traditional market where guests can find fine souvenirs of local handicrafts from Oman. Enjoy the mixed smells of frankincense, perfume oils, fresh jasmine and spices as you stroll along the narrow alleys.

OVERNIGHT IN MUSCAT
 
Day4 - 4WD SUR
0800 hrs   Breakfast at the hotel
0900 hrs   Departure from Muscat via Quriyat to Bamah village and photostop at the sinkhole; Proceed to Fins where the guests can see the white sandy beach. Then go to Wadi Shab, photostop in the wadi. Cross to the next wadi, Wadi Tiwi.

Evening, a short city tour in Sur includes a visit of the traditional Omani dhow building factory.

Traditional Arab sailing vessels (dhow) have been built here at Sur for centuries. Today Omani craftsmen continue to employ time honored techniques to construct these vessels, once the life blood of Oman's trading empire.

OVERNIGHT - RAS AL JINZ TURTLE RESERVE
 
Day5 - 4WD WAHIBA
0700 hrs   Breakfast at the reserve
0800 hrs   Proceed to Wahiba Sands. In the Wahiba Sands, guests can enjoy dune driving and see the majestic sand dunes that are 200 kilometers long and 100 kilometers wide and soar up to 150 meters and appear in a variety of hues from orange to deep amber. This includes stop in a Bedouin campsite.

Wadi bani Khalid, one of the most beautiful oasis in Oman. It is a lush valley oasis with date palms & pools surrounded by steep cliffs.

DINNER AND OVERNIGHT IN CAMP AT THE DESERT
 
Day6 - 4WD NIZWA TOUR
0700hrs   Breakfast at the camp
0800hrs   continue to Nizwa, famous for its 17th-century Round Tower fort. The next stop is Wadi Nakher, located in the depth of Oman's deepest canyon and a great place for walking. Visit Misfah, a pretty mountain village with stone dwellings still in existence,

Proceed to Jabal Shams, the Sun Mountain and at 3000 meters is the highest peak in Oman and from where guests can see the ''Grand Canyon'' of Oman. A truly breath taking scenery! Return to Muscat.

Day7 - LEISURE

Enjoy a day at leisure by the beach.

Breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to Muscat International airport for your flight to London Heathrow on board Oman Air.
